Complexity identifies the quantity of data and processes involved in a
project. Enter a complexity rating that reflects a measure of information
systems as well as business project size, scope, and technical complexity.
Project Complexity ratings:
High (Very Complex/Complex)
4 or more facets of data and 2 or more subjects of data
26 or more unit processes, 6 or more complex functions and/or 2 or more subsystems
More than 5 exchanges of data with other systems
Number of users/sites greater than 100
Medium
2 - 3 facets of data and 1 subject of data
8 - 25 unit processes, 1 - 5 complex functions and/or 1 subsystem
1 - 4 exchanges of data with other systems
Number of users/sites is 15 - 100
Low (Simple/Very Simple)
1 facet or subset of a facet of data
1 - 7 unit processes, 1 simply/very simple function and/or no subsystems
No exchanges of data with other systems
Number of users/sites is less than 15
Check appropriate box indicating what level of importance the project
plays in the ability to successfully complete business functions.
Project Importance Ratings:
Mission Critical
cannot meet required deadlines during the next fiscal year without this project
is at risk of losing funding without this project
cannot meet the demands of the public and/or the legislature in a timely manner without this project
High Importance
can meet required deadlines, but requires a difficult work-around
can meet the demands of the public and/or legislature, but usually not on time
can meet the demands of the section, but requires extensive staff time
Medium Importance
Can meet deadlines and do required work, but this project would make it easier
Would free up staff time to do other things
Would provide additional services or products that are frequently requested, but not required
Low Importance
Would be nice to have, but not really necessary
Would provide additional services or products, but these are not required
Would be a nice enhancement, but not needed to meet the section’s mission
Enter a brief summarization of the overall purpose and objectives of the project.
Example:
Develop a process to produce computer generated motor vehicle collision diagrams
Provide eventual access of this application to external customers.
Provide accessibility of this application to both ODOT headquarters and regional offices.
During the course of this project determine if use of GIS technology is a solution
Enter expected results that will indicate project is completed to your specifications.
Example:
Expect the application to generate a collision diagram using current crash data.
Enter the specific business benefits that will justify the Importance rating indicated.
Example:
Decreased turn-around time in processing crash collision diagrams.
Allow ODOT field staff to respond to safety concerns in a much shorter amount of time by shortening the wait period for collision diagrams
Enter significant considerations that will affect the project and business during and after its completion.
Example:
Input data may change depending on the timing between this project and the Crash Data System rewrite (CDS01). It must be accounted for in this project.
Enter any other project or pre-exiting system that is needed to assure projects success or will affect the architectural or technological development of the project.
Example:
This process would need to integrate with both the existing and revised Crash Data Systems.
If GIS is chosen as a technology solution, the needed base layer must be developed.
Provide an estimate of funding available for this project.
Example: $5000
Provide an estimate of when this project can be completed.
Example: 07/17/2007
Provide an estimate of who long (in months) this project is going to take.
Example: 5 months
